We had never done this Jitney routine before. In fact, none of us had ever been to the Hamptons. So this whole notion of getting to the corner of 44th and Lexington Ave to catch the Jitney was a little intimidating. Giang is the organizer of our gang and assured us everything was going to be OK, until we missed our big bolt bus in Philadelphia.
Deciding not to let a late bus ruin our good time we grabbed some burgers and shakes and were able to get on the next Jitney. We settled in to our seats...tummies full, and let the relaxation of not having to fight traffic behind a wheel settle in. Cold water and some yum goodies, several chapters of my book on kindle, and a short nap later I heard "East Hampton next stop".
It was the prelude to a fun, relaxing time in a home with a pool and a kitchen to die for - if you are a cook. I left that chore up to others preferring to Uber into town to shop for the steaks and sword fish later grilled and consumed on the patio with bottles of wine and friendship, great conversation and lots of laughs.
„Ober Oaks“ caught my attention due to the fact that the name shows similarities to my favourite hotel in Munich. I am often in Munich for private and business purposes. I always stay in a hotel called „Deutsche Eiche“. A great hotel in the heart of Munich, where you experience a very warm welcome. The interieur here is very stylisch and cozy. Last fall I was looking for an extraordinary accommodation due to my travels through America. I always wanted to visit the Hamptons. I came across „Ober Oaks“ on the internet, maybe the American version of „Deutsche Eiche“?, I thought. Just fantastic, the name is doing it justice. The house is completely renovated. The interieur shows the passion of the owner to make everything perfect. Luxury at its best. Aside from the heated outdoor pool and the whirlpool right next to it, you reach the miles-long sand beaches of Long Island. Here you can simply escape the stress of your daily routine, far away from mass tourism. That was definitely not my last visit to „Ober Oaks“.
Ober Oaks was the perfect setting for my Bachelorette gathering with nine of my closest friends and relatives. We kicked off the weekend with oysters and rose at an adorable seafood restaurant at the marina – stopping along the walk from the house for photo ops in front of the water. Later, we took advantage of the grill and patio back at the house for a lovely dinner al fresco followed by a dip in the gigantic hot tub!
Our Hamptons experience only got better as the weekend continued. Saturday brought us hours of lounging in the pristine pool – fruity cocktails in hand and each of us with her own over-sized float. We then took a short car ride to the beautiful Wolffer Estate Vineyard, where we enjoyed wine and charcuterie overlooking rows of lush grapevines under the sunset. We ended the night on the dance floor – singing and dancing at Montauk’s famed Surf Lodge.
All in all the weekend at Ober Oaks was perfect - from the massive dining table where we sat and exchanged stories all night, to the comfortable living room perfect for Bachelorette games and activities. Ober Oaks provided all the amenities we needed for a fabulous girls' weekend and the location couldn’t have been more convenient. This will not be the last time we visit Ober Oaks and all the beauty East Hampton has to offer!
It's tucked way back in the far corner of the yard ... past the pool, down a few steps, and tucked in the foliage. It never occurred to Andy and I to even ask what the shed was for. But to the children, this became a "no parents allowed" clubhouse.
"Very welcoming, responsive, and warm. The room was clean and perfect for a Hamptons getaway. Thank you for a wonderful stay!"
This is a wonderful place to stay when visiting the Hamptons. The house is beautiful and the room in very spacious and clean. Checking in and out was very painless. I would definitely stay here again.
... A lovely house in a great location: short ride/drive to a bay beach, several restaurants, tavern and coffee shop. We made good use of the pool and hot tub on a rainy day. Great host, very accommodating. Top of our list next time we’re out this way.
This was a perfect, peaceful getaway. Beautiful location and home, and Mickey was very friendly. The room and in-suite bathroom were comfortable and pretty. Pool and jacuzzi nestled on a beautiful lot. We needed a couple of really peaceful days and this really fit the bill. We'd definitely come back!
We truly enjoyed our stay at Mickey's lovely home. This was our first Airbnb experience and Mickey's hospitality made it all worthwhile. We found the location of his home to be perfect for experiencing the Hamptons and Montauk with ease. His home is beautiful, clean and peaceful. If you appreciate nature you will especially love the pool, hot tub and backyard area, all set against nature's serene and tranquil landscape. Mickey was a wonderful host. He was available when needed yet gracious from a distance - the way one would be when you truly want your guests to feel "at home" and enjoy all that your home has to offer. We will definitely be experiencing more Hamptons getaways in the future and will, without hesitation, stay at Mickey's home again!
Amazing home. Pictures don’t do it justice. Highly recommend this place to anyone planning a trip in the area. Thanks for hosting my wife and I.
... House is beautiful and in a great location -- 12 minutes from the beach and tucked away in the woods by the bay side. I wish we had more time to explore the area (and take a dip in the hot tub!) but unfortunately had to head back to the city early. The room itself was very comfortable, clean, and spacious. J. Mickey is a lovely, gracious host and I hope I can visit again soon!
Our stay at J. Mickey’s house was perfect. He has been very responsive as well as welcoming thus making our stay ideal. The house is gorgeous and the neighborhood very quiet. The room has everything that is needed and some pleasant additional things like some local beers, a coffee machine in the room, etc. We definitely recommend J. Mickey’s house and will definitely reconsider it if coming back in the Hamptons !
